We’ve been working on some exciting new accommodations beyond the paradise of Bali. For the lovers of nature and pristine beaches combined with amazing surf, we’ve searched high and low and found some amazing accommodations. In this case we went south and all the way to the east. We proudly present to you “Dream Lodge Rote” located on the island of Rote, part of the East Nusa Tenggara province of the Lesser Sunda Islands. As remote as it seems, it can be reached by flight. First to Kupang Timor and then another flight straight to Rote, or by taking a ferry. Your choice of transport will probably depend on the amount of luggage you bring as the flight only allows for 10kg luggage excluding the surfboard charge.
There are 2 flights a day from Kupang to Rote by Wings Air, and the one way fares vary between 200.000 IDR and 309.000 IDR depending on how far in advance you book. From my personal experience with Wings Air (in Sumatra!) is that they charge 200.000 IDR per surfboard and it had to be paid at the airport. The flight takes about 30 minutes including boarding time.
There are 2 daily ferries from Kupang to Rote, both leaving at 8.30 in the morning.
– The slow ferry (appr. 3-4 hours) – costs 52.000 IDR
– The fast ferry (appr. 2 hours) – costs 130.000 IDR or 160.000 IDR for a VIP ticket.
Once you’re on the island, the best way to get around is by motorbike. Just like in other parts of Indonesia. Rote is still untouched and doesn’t get as much tourists as Bali. Local people are curious and friendly. The Lodge is located off the grid in the midst of nature and aims to be as sustainable as possible to retain the beauty of the island.
The surf season in Rote is during the dry season from April to November. However the island offers amazing nature all year round, for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, mangrove walks and canoeing, trekking, boat trips to other islands etc. etc..the possibilities are endless.
